11 day Tour Itinerary

An overview of your trip

DAY 1 Fly to Luang Prabang

Take a scheduled flight from the UK to Luang Prabang.

Transport: Airplane

DAY 2 Arrive Luang Prabang

Upon arrival at Luang Prabang Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax after your journey or explore the local area.

DAY 3 Luang Prabang City Tour

Visit the Traditional Art and Ethnology Centre to learn about the country’s many ethnic cultures. See the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, a fine example of classical Laotian architecture. Continue to the Royal Palace Museum, and Big Brother Mouse, the most famous bookshop in Laos. Climb the 328 steps to the top of Phousi Hill, for a beautiful sunset view of the city, and end the day with a visit to the famous Night Market.

DAY 4 Pak Ou Caves

Rise early to witness the morning ritual of monks collecting Alms (sticky rice) from the faithful, then board your boat to cruise upstream on the Mekong River, stopping at sleepy Xieng Mene Village, on your way to the Pak Ou Caves. This mysterious attraction is crammed with thousands of gold Buddha statues of varying shapes and sizes. On your return to Luang Prabang, visit the villages of Ban Xanghai, the home of Lao-Lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey, Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xienglek. These two villages are renowned for their handwoven silk and saa paper lanterns, a paper made from fast-growing mulberry bark naturally shed by the tree.

DAY 5 Khuang Si Waterfall

Today is your opportunity to discover the stunningly beautiful Khuang Si Waterfalls. Be sure to pack your swimwear and take advantage of the glistening cool waters that collect in the pools, and treat yourself to a refreshing dip. You may wish to walk along the forest trails, admiring the flora and fauna of this picturesque area. On your return to Luang Prabang, stop at the colourful Kuang Si Falls Butterfly Park and the local villages at Ban Na Ouane and Ban Thapene, famous for their basket weaving.

DAY 6 Luang Prabang to Xieng Khouang

Travel over the mountains to Xieng Khouang, which is mostly famous for the mysterious Plain of Jars. The journey takes about eight hours, with some stops at villages along the way to experience the rural life of local tribes like the Hmong people.

DAY 7 Plain of Jars

Journey through Phonsavan to the Plain of Jars, a huge archaeological site with 2,000 year old stone jars, sized from 70 cm up to 3 or 4 meters, scattered across it. Their true origin remains a mystery. This amazing area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. The day includes visits to various sites and local villages, where traditional houses and customs continue to be used. In the afternoon, enjoy a trip to Muang Khoun, home to a unique sitting giant Buddha.

DAY 8 Xieng Khouang to Vang Vieng

Explore nearby villages, populated by Hmong hill tribe and Tai Dam people, both having a vibrant culture and fascinating history. A scenic drive takes you to Vang Vieng, a small town nestled on a bend of the Nam Song River, where the stunning scenery with limestone outcrops remains unspoiled.

DAY 9 Vang Vieng to Vientiane

Stroll around the town visiting the local market and Organic Farm Vangvieng (OFVV), where natural materials and traditional methods are used. After visiting the historic Tham Jang Cave, drive to Vientiane, stopping en-route at Vang Xang, a famous archaeological site dating back to the 11th century.

DAY 10 Vientiane City Tour

Visit the remarkable Wat Sisaket, the only temple left standing after the invasion of 1828, Wat Phra Keo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), and the outside of the Presidential Palace. Continue to the Patuxay Monument, Laos’ version of the Arc de Triomphe and That Luang, with its towering golden spire, is the holiest site in Laos.

DAY 11 Fly to UK

Transfer to the airport for your return flight back to the UK.
