Hong Kong is a place with multiple personalities, as a result of being both Cantonese Chinese and British influence. Today, the former British colony is a major tourism destination for China’s increasingly affluent mainland population. It is also an important hub in East Asia with global connections to many of the world’s cities. It is a unique destination that has absorbed people and cultural influences from places as diverse as Vietnam and Vancouver and proudly proclaims itself to be Asia’s World City.
Why Hong Kong?
Located on the southern coast of China, Hong Kong (“Fragrant Harbour”) is where “East meets West”. With a deep natural port, the waterfront in Hong Kong is remarkable and full of possibilities. There are also plenty of shopping opportunities in Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon being one of the most popular.
Hong Kong is a recommended 3 or 4 day add-on to your small group tour or tailor-made journey.
The Star Ferry
The Star Ferry and its seven-minute crossing is a popular and enjoyable form of transport, providing you with the opportunity to experience the wonderful sights of the skyline from sea level.
Whilst in Hong Kong, take a trip up to the Peak. A 120-year-old funicular tram takes you up the almost 400 metres where you can then view the dramatic display of Victoria Harbour and the skyscrapers in the distance.
Lamma and Lantau
The surrounding islands of Lamma (amazing seafood restaurants at Sok Kwu Wan) and Lantau (home to the Giant Buddha and Ngong Ping Cable Car) can be reached by a short ferry ride.
