Why Siem Reap?

For Cambodia's famous temples of Angkor

Siem Reap is the gateway to Cambodia's most famous and important landmark; the Temples of Angkor. These iconic temples are located just a few miles north of Siem Reap. The scale of the temple complex is truly remarkable and a must-see for all visitors. Built in the first half of the 12th century, Angkor Wat is where you will discover the fascinating history of the Khmer Empire. Ta Prohm is a unique and atmospheric temple that has largely been left to the clutches of the lush jungle with huge trees towering above the ruins. These remarkable archaeological sites provide you with plenty to do and see, with a minimum stay of 2-3 nights recommended to get the most out of your visit.

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world, and the reason most people visit Cambodia. This visually stunning monument is surrounded by a moat, constructed as part of a groundwater system to stabalise the building's foundations, but for today's visitors, it acts as a picturesque addition to the site.

Tonle Sap Lake

The largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and one of Cambodia’s most important landmarks, Tonle Sap Lake is home to around 1.2 million people who make their living by fishing its waters. The floating villages have become one of the most popular attractions in Cambodia, you can take a boat ride on the lake to see entire villages, of houses, schools, markets, everything needed to create a community, literally anchored in the middle of the water.

Rolous Group Monuments

The Roluos Group Monuments are a collection of four Angkor-era monuments, which are not located within the main Angkor site, but instead near the small town of Roluos, east of Siem Reap. They are the last remains of Hariharalaya, the second capital of the Angkor-era Khmer Empire and were built by King Jayavarman II, who moved the capital to Roluos from Mahendraparvata.

Banteay Srei Temple

Also known as 'the lady temple', 'the tiny temple', and 'the pink temple', Banteay Srei feels very different to the imposing grandeur of the main temples at the Angkor complex. Originally called Tribhuvanamahesvara, Banteay Srei is a modern one, meaning 'citadel of the women' or, 'citadel of beauty'.

Pre Rup

Pre Rup, built by Rajendravarman II, is a popular spot for sunset views. It is a pyramid-shaped temple-mountain with the uppermost of the three tiers carrying five lotus towers.
